Thanks to the almost immediate success of the concoction, people across the country began making their own versions of the drink, touting different benefits depending on the herbs they’d chosen to use. Complicated instructions for making your own mamajuana at home
Do you have a bottle and want to play with the recipe? This may be the product for you. This is the way I personally make my mamajuana from scratch. I like to go to a big liquor store for lots of selection. I think it just makes it fun, and because I take my mamajuana very seriously I choose a handle of the finest rum that I can afford. Remember this bottle is the bottle that will be hanging out in the pantry for a good long time, so make it a good one. Choose a great rum 1.75 sizes and let’s also look for some sweet wine. Preferably La Fuerza or Caballo Blanco. If you cannot find these then a port will do. I would prefer sweet red wine. Next, we need some honey. I suggest finding your local honey dealer and possibly add some extra spices like anise and cinnamon. For my next bottle, I will be adding some clove along with extra sweet anise. I suggest dumping out 70–80% of your bottle into another container for later use. Some instructions say to rinse the wood and then add to the bottle, but some say to rinse with a rum soak, but that seems like a waste to me. There may be some powder if you don’t rinse. Add back the rum to about the bottom of the bottle handle. Next, add the honey, I will add a 1/2 liter to the bottle, and then the rest will be the wine.
