Three steps to learn kanji efficiently.

One of the biggest challenges in learning Japanese is kanji. Japanese children learn 2,136 kanji in the 12 years from elementary school to high school, which is very difficult even for Japanese children.

Then what is the difference between Japanese children who can master kanji and non-Japanese speakers who struggle to learn kanji? Are Japanese children able to memorise more than 2,000 kanji naturally because they see so many kanji every day? It is true that the frequency of exposure to kanji is important, but it would be difficult to memorise that many complex kanji alone.

In my opinion, the most significant and important difference between Japanese children and non-Japanese speakers in learning kanji is their ability to recognize complex kanji as simple kanji and radical combinations.

※ Kanji is made up of different components (parts), and the main component is called a radical (bushu).

So here are three steps to learning kanji efficiently. With this method, you can memorise kanji with less effort.

Please give it a try!

Step1:Memorize katakana, simple kanji and radicals(bushu)

The first step to learning kanji efficiently is to learn katakana, simple kanji and frequently used radicals. This step is simply memorization.

You may feel anxious when you hear the word ‘memorise’, but don’t worry. There are only 50 katakana. And there are only as many radicals…
