I am a Writer

But what the hell does that mean?

“Writing is the only thing that when I do it, I don’t feel I should be doing something else.” — Gloria Steinem

“A person is a fool to become a writer. His only compensation is absolute freedom. He has no master except his own soul, and that, I am sure, is why he does it.” — Roald Dahl

Some opening thoughts…

I wrote this after reading Robert Lashley’s poem, No Country For An Old Thug, last week. My college degree, specifically, is an English major, with a concentration in creative writing and an emphasis in poetry writing (and a second Psychology degree 😊). I read the poem for enjoyment, but I couldn’t resist adding a couple comments, not because I think I have the position or credibility to do so, but because I love workshopping poetry, and I miss doing it regularly.

Medium, like most things, has room for improvement, but I think highly of the site, all in. I have met a few connections from here IRL, but mostly our interactions are exclusively through the words we write, and there is something so pure and cool about that. Some of my favorite writers on here write from behind the protection of an avatar and nothing more, like Argumentative Penguin, about whom I know no detail that could serve as an identifying trait, yet I feel like I know all that matters.
