Scrolling down the news feed of my LinkedIn account, I happened to bump into GirlScript Summer of code. GirlScript Summer of Code is the 3 months long Open Source program during summers conducted by GirlScript Foundation, which started in 2018. Not being so particularly hooked, I thought of filling the participation form. And later in the due course of time, I received the selection mail and confirmation to select any project to work on it.

Getting into open source wasn’t new to me since I had already had my hands on it during the Hacktober fest. Open Source lets us the ability to realize and observe our strengths and weaknesses and incorporate each of them altogether. Contributing to open source instills in us the competitive behavior.

And thus started, the 3 months long journey of my contribution in GsSoc on 1st March 2019. There are various projects based on different skills and every participant is free to claim any project. Even one can contribute to multiple projects as per their choice. In the beginning, I had the idea of contributing into two projects but later on with the suggestion of my mentor I chose to work on only one project. I chose the Technotica web development curriculum as my project for this year GsSoc. The main tech stack used in this project is HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Git, and Markdown. I was really glad to explore Git commands and get acquainted with it. The mentors are so highly cooperative and helpful that I could openly ask away the silliest of all doubts and surprisingly received the response almost instantaneously. Successfully merging more than 15 Pull Request has its own story.

Contributing for 3 long months seems difficult but the time rolled down, that it almost feels like yesterday. And now I feel getting into this was worth the while.
