No one can forget the eerie tragedy that occurred in West London on June 14th of this year. With at least 80 lives lost and over 70 injuries, the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire will never be forgotten by Londoners, or the world nonetheless. UK Hip Hop artist Lowkey further immortalized the lost souls of this calamity through his goose bump dispensing new record.

Listen and watch below.

Lowkey(Feat. Mai Khalil): ‘Ghosts of Grenfell’

The track is served with a classic hip-hop tempo but every sound is somehow new. From the very beginning, the angles of the footage yank at your attention plus Lowkey’s assertive and confrontational tone. But Lowkey himself is not presented in this visual. Rather, his words are being rapped by London locals which indicates that the community is concerted for Grenfell. Plus, this is very humbling of the British Iraqi Hip Hop artist who is known to be very present on the screen in past work.

Mai Khalil’s voice serves as a consolation on the chorus, but also a reminder that there is still much to do for these victims and their families.

She sings:

“Did they die, or us? Did they die, for us?”

Lowkey has recently returned from a four year hip-hop hiatus in which he was further pursuing his education. He will launching a UK Tour in September and it seems likely that there is a new album on the way.
