‘Tip the Scales’ Back Towards Kindness

On June 28th we read about small acts of kindness following incidents of hate. A man who delivered flowers to a Polish Centre following a graffiti attack, school children in bristol who gave flowers to people they thought may be migrants and EU members to show that they were welcome. These stories inspired a small team to do the same as we encountered stories from people we knew in our locality, on our estates, or near the office, that were upset, worried, and anxious about a random act of hate.

So we wanted to tell you that it’s easy! None of us are used to giving people flowers, or a card, saying we’re glad you are here and that our lives are richer because we know you. But we were moved by smiles, sometimes tears, and often a hug and it spurred us on to tell others to do it.

There are many ways out there that people are following in the last week or so. There is the safety pin campaign, the scone campaign and others which may not have made the headlines.

We are sharing this with you to encourage you either as an individual, or a small community group, as it is an easy activity to do. All you need is to go to the website, which is free, and have a look at what people have been doing as acts of love.

You’re Blooming Marvellous (YBM) encourages both young and old to take positive action with simple steps such as taking a card or flowers to reach out to their European friends such as the local shopkeepers, neighbours, and colleagues whose safety is being evermore threatened since the UK voted to leave the EU. It’s about building friendships, not fear.

We are asking you to share this idea which you can find on the website;

www.yourebloomingmarvellous.com and are encouraged to give the card and/or, flowers, chocolate, or an invitation to a cup of tea to Europeans in their community.

Some of the stories have been shared with the recipients permission, on the website and social media. Do have a look at these:

Thank you

From You’re Blooming Marvellous!
