Last Wednesday, I was honored to hear a speech from Giulia Imperatrice, the Program Director at NUMA New York, about how she helped grow an international startup using marketing strategies and her thoughts behind that. Follows are some really helpful tips I noted from her speech which I think will be very helpful for most start-ups.

Before actually goes into develop a Social Media Strategy, we should first think about FOUR main criteria: Who, What, When and How.

Who, stands for who your customer is. This question should be answered both before and after launching your strategy. We have to define our exact customer persona at the very beginning, and exam whether they are the right person after actually launching the strategy based on relevance, influence, reach, and customer engagement.

What, stands for the objective of the strategy you launch. It can be Connect & Engage, Increase Conversion or Build Credibility.

How, depends on what social media you are using.

Facebook is the best way you can use to reach the exact audience, compared to other social media. So, when launching a new campaign, Facebook Ads can help you target the audience you want.

Instagram is a good station to help you direct your audience to the web page. Even though it looks like a photo gallery, there's more to be noted on your Instagram profile than you can imagine. Make sure your Instagram Name has all the elements you need; Keep your theme constant; Use the right format; Add your determined Hashtags. Keep in mind, content is the king for engagement, especially in Instagram, where pictures can tell very interesting stories.

LinkedIn is a special platform where you can connect with the target you want. Be careful with the profile picture, headline and summary you put. They should be professional and concise. There's many function we can utilize, such as send out a note, export emails, share with friends and do leverage groups (like facebook groups).

There are too many social media platform we can choose from, each of them can somehow benefit us, but the content should be differentiated and unique. No matter which platform we use, add links everywhere!
