Why Are Palo Alto’s Kids Killing Themselves?
San Francisco Magazine

Something like this is never easy to solve, but I can’t help thinking that parents are risking their children’s lives and wellbeing for the sake of success. I’m loathe to stereotype, but here in Australia the problem seems to be more accute amongst families with East Asian parents, who seem to never let up with the preasure. When I was at university, Some students used to half joke that their families would rather hear that they had been killed than that they had done badly in an exam. The constant pressure might produce some exceptional academic results, but i strongly doubt that it can help produce a well rounded, well adjusted human being.
