As being brought up in an Asian family and environment, I was fully exposed to the blood type stereotypes like all other Asians. Children ask each other’s blood types and find online or even paper blood type psychological personality tests and see what kind of personality they, and others with the same blood type possess.
There are four different general types of blood types, namely, A, B, O, and AB. In Asian countries, people associate your blood type into a four big personality categories. There are thousands of books, online articles, games, cartoons, and activities related to blood type. Also the stereotype that has been settled throughout the years became one of the key ways to determine one’s first impression. People actually do say their first impressions before and after knowing the blood type of this new person changed. This is when what they saw and what they know of with the blood type stereotypes does not match.

The people with blood type A are said to be very regular in their daily lives, and don’t like to go out of the boundaries they set. They typically follow rules, regulations and laws. They are very considerate of others, and try to think in their point of view. They are strong empathizers and sympathizers. The A blood type people have hard time enduring drastic changes in their environment, especially in terms of relationships with people around them. They are very careful at starting new things: trying out something new is not the easiest thing for them. Majority of the A bloodtype people are perfectionists, because a lot of them are pessimistic about their future. They are very patient, and they can suppress their emotions well. Lastly, they get hurt more often and more deeply between interactions.
The B blood type people are thought of as creative people. They do not like being disturbed by others, and living within a boundary. They obsess at those things they are curious at, and express their feelings very freely to others. Because their abstraction is freewheeling and carefree, they are open to new relationships in life. A lot of the B blood type people are optimistic about their future, and rarely get affected by their surroundings. Most of them are temperamental, less romantic compared to others, but they are nice people.
People with the blood type O, are said to be most driven by life. When they set a goal, they have the most positive drive, but when they loose their goals become vague, they automatically loose their passion. They are very idealistic, and realists at the same time. The O blood type people like to make groups and show wariness to the non-members of the group. These people focus and concentrate well once they start something, so they tend to end up getting professional jobs. They are very honest and have strong self-assertiveness, with their own philosophy or beliefs. These people are emotional but they do not carry on the bad emotions once it resolves. And Lastly, they like to be winners.
The AB blood type people tend to maintain certain distance with others and dislike someone coming in their boundaries. They are said to be rational, logical, and they have good dealership. These people are inborn analysts, and critics. They tend to say the right things directly to people, but those that might hurt others. Most of the AB blood type poeple are emotional and idealistic. The two opposite personalities of calmness/stableness and wariness coexists within their minds and have the lowest interest among all other blood types toward politics and/or power and authority. These people are more prone to dozing off, most honest and just people but they don’t act out directly.
There are not much research done in the field of psychology about the blood types and personality traits, but the fact that the majority of the Asians do believe in this stereotype and think it is scientific should have some reason. Thus, I believe there needs to be further studies to be done on this relationship between blood type and personality traits.
