What do you love about Montreal?

Hochelaga (the Wyandot Iroquoian village) is my island home; afloat in a Cosmic archipelago. Montréal is my rock in the middle of the tumultuous river of space and time; all of the times, they stand still here, like photography, for beautiful yet fleeting instances. The snapshots reveal the changing of the seasons and the ebb and flow of life. MTL is the crossroads and confluence of humanity; it is the beaver path by the big rapids. Ma ville aux mille clochers, ville aux quatre vents et aux quatre cœurs … envoûte et fascine.

Who is someone that you always look forward or hope to see at a Yelp event (other than Risa)? How did both of you meet?

Dani B. from San Francisco, California without a doubt. In 2004, Dani and I met each other in Vancouver during our undergrad at UBC; we became lifelong friends. Dani is the person who introduced me to Yelp. Dani kept on pestering me to go as her plus one to one of her cultish Yelp Elite events and I thought it was kinda sketchy at first; the idea of meeting up with a bunch of random Internet folks sounded like a bad trip but then I went and embraced it and now … one of us. One of us. I love you, Dani B. a big hug and kiss to you all the way over across the pond in Paris.

If you had to pick only 3 places to eat in Montreal for the rest of your life, where would it be? What makes these places special for you?

Vincent Sous-Marins in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve on Marseille and Langelier. This place has the best frites and poutine in the entire city. There is nothing better than walking home from school or hanging out with friends and having a grease stained brown paper bag filled to the brim with the most delicious fries in the world. Maybe drench them in ketchup, maybe vinegar or maybe au naturel. I kissed a girl for the first time ever outside of this place when I was six years old. It was great.

I could never do without East Africa Restaurant. This is my favourite food on the planet! Ethiopian food makes me ecstatic. This resto is a down home eating time.

Last but never least is Thanjai Restaurant in CdN. I’ve got a crazy wicked masala dosa addiction. The lunch thali is incredibly delicious as well.

What made you get into your favorite hobby?

Photography is like capturing lightning in a bottle. A moment of time can be taken out of the cycle of time and thus, observed. It is serenity and time travel wrapped up in an emotion or sense. I am legit capturing light from the sun onto film paper. What is life? It blows my mind.

What was the proudest moment in your life?

I cooked my Nana dinner for her 90th birthday just this past 2nd March. She has been cooking food for me and the rest of her family since before I can remember and it was just such an overwhelming honour and pleasure to finally cook her some food. I think I’ve got like another 99,999 dinners to go in order for us to be even.

What is the best advice someone has given you?

Be yourself and know thyself.
