Premier League badges’ history and evolution
Over time, the Premier League badge has been changed, in both details and general designs. Let’s see how the Premier League logos have adjusted throughout the history of the competition in this post.
Premier League logos over time
The first stage (1992–2007)
During the first stage between 1992 and 2007, the badge of the Premier League was changed three times. from the original design. However, all designs of the Premier League logos in this period basically remained with a blue lion in the middle and a red and white football under his paw.
The lion also wore a red crown with four peaks and four dots above each peak. There was a green banner with a white border placed under the lion and the ball. The name of the competition “THE F.A. PREMIER LEAGUE” was written in all capital letters and in white color.
In the 1993–2003 and 2003–04 periods, the Premier League badge also featured the banner with the name of the tournament with a crowned lion and a ball under his paw, but with a slight difference in colors, sizes, and shapes. Notably, the shape of the banner was changed, and the inscription was changed to BARCLAYCARD PREMIERSHIP.
The second design (2007–2016)
In this next stage, the logo of the Premier League might look similar to the original version at first glance, but in fact, only the lion and the red ball remained, but with a different design. This time, the lion turned his head to the audience. The name of the competition was only Premier League and it was placed right under the lion without the frame.
The letters were still capital, but in the same blue color as the lion. The font of the letters was also different from the previous one and larger in size. In several seasons during this stage, the inscription was put inside a banner and named BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE with the name of the sponsor being larger.
The current logo (since 2016)
The current design was first released in 2016 with a totally new pattern, from the font of the letters, the color of the badge, and the lion symbol. Accordingly, there was only the head of the lion featured on the logo. The lion looks more depressed, but more powerful, drawn in purple and white.
The Premier League inscription, which has the same purple color as the lion, is not written all capital anymore, but only the two first letters “P” and “L”. No red football has appeared on the Premier League badge since then. So in general, this new design looks simpler and more elegant.
