gotta take issue with this quote: “We’d figure out later, with the rise of the “cool girl” ideal, that we were really only doing this because the standards of hotness for women had shifted”. No, feminists fought the patriarchy kicking and screaming to move those goalposts in the direction they moved in, you have the chicken and egg totally reversed. Just because the patriarchy still co opted and ruined everything let’s not deny women their agency. As an sjw adjacent I take offense to that.

its like gentrifiers inadvertently being priced out of the neighborhoods whose original residents they themselves have priced out. if you acknowledge your obvious agency in the situation or disengeniously play the victim or are completely oblivious of the forces you are a part of is really of little import, the past is the past, but in a generally well reasoned essay I didnt expect such a gaff, and those who ignore the mistake of the past are just gonna get culturally appropriated by the paitriarchy every damn time.

Anyways still one of the better opinion pieces I have read lately.
