This manufacturing process is a little bit like injection molding. The difference is that the material (tiny spherical plastic beads) are expanded to 40 times their original size first with steam and pentane. After cooling down, those expanded beads are reheated and injected into a mold.
I have once used CNC machine before. It’s a milling machine and I made a prototyping of laser pointer. The material was chemical wood. First we drew the 3d CAD file on solidworks. By using CNC machine, the surface is really great, but it also took many time to make it.
