Having “that dawg in you” refers to one’s ability to perform in important or high pressure situations. It is unclear where the phrase originated from, however a tweet by @djparker25 claiming that late basketball legend Kobe Bryant did not “have that dog in him” is the earliest known use of the phrase, dating all the way back to May 25th 2009.

The phrase gained popularity in the 2010’s, being used as a way of evaluating athletes performance. In the current era the phrase “got that dog in him” extends to more than just athletes and can be used to describe anyone who has the ability to perform under important or stressful situations.

How do you train to “have that dog in you”?

It should first be mentioned that “having that dog in you” isn’t to be taken literally.

“Having that dog in you” comes from experience and talent and cannot be taught. It’s just something that you have. If you don’t got that dog in you, you just don’t got that dog in you, it’s that simple. However as you gain experience in whatever it is that you do it might be possible that you develop the ability to “have that dog in you”.

Is it important to have that dog in you?

If you have that dog in you, you’ll definitely be have an advantage in life compared to those who don’t. You’ll find that you’re naturally better at things than the average human being, and you’ll find that you’re able to overcome tough situations faster.

Having that dog in you shows that you have matured as a person, and signifies just how much better you are than the average person.
