Non stressful suspense book. I read this in one sitting because it was truly a great book. The 2 main issues in the book were well written, but I do wish the actual “suspense” issue would have been stretched and really held us on the edge of our seats. We spent so much time on their past, that we didn’t get to really get into the current problem. Overall, this was a good book. Great characters and great development. The ending, I thought was predictable at first but then Janie Crouch flipped the script on me and I was pleasantly surprised at the end.

Review: I enjoyed the beginning if this new series. Anne is a great character, she has her issues — crazy alcoholic parents growing up, a speech impediment and being invisible to those around her. Zach has always known Anne, through his deceased wife, but doesn’t know the whole story of why she left town. They meet and the story is the rest.

Review: This was my first book by Janie Crouch and it certainly won’t be my last. There was so much to like about this story and characters. I especially loved the camaraderie of the Linear crew and can’t wait to dive into Finn’s story next!

Review: TW: SA. Very interesting. I was suspicious of everyone but it was well written. Kinda instalove but also 2nd chance romance. Zack messed up badly and although he did do a lot, i honestly feel that was something unforgivable. HEA with 2 suspenseful scenes in book 60% & 80%. Well worth the read. Anne, that beautiful soul. Her compassion, understanding, and tough life you can’t help but like her.

Review: I’m going to disagree with most of the reviews here and say that this was just an OK read for me. I was intrigued by the premise and excited to read about a second chance romance in which the hero majorly screwed up with the heroine and then has to overcome her resistance and fear of getting sexually involved again. I also like reading about heroines who are more introverted, so that was a plus as well. I think the author did a good job in building both the hero and heroine as sympathetic characters. But the way they got back together seemed very rushed and forced. Zac was drunk the night he first slept with Anne (six years prior to the beginning of the book) and initially doesn’t remember what occurred that night or why she’s afraid of him; he only knows that something happened and he still feels incredibly guilty and about it because it happened so soon after the death of his wife, who was also Anne’s best friend. He also feels betrayed, both by himself and by Anne. I was looking forward to him gradually realizing what happened and getting over these emotional hurdles, but it didn’t really work that way — he’s just triggered into suddenly remembering everything and then it’s as if the feelings of betrayal don’t matter any more. He feels incredibly guilty about what he did to Anne, but I was surprised that he got over the whole betrayal thing so fast — it seemed that he just suddenly switched gears from being in mourning for his wife to suddenly being one hundred percent focused on Anne. They hardly even spoke about his wife, Becky, on screen after Zac’s memory is restored — we are told they talked about her off screen, but the conversations don’t happen on screen — and I found that unsatisfying. There was emotional baggage here, especially on Zac’s part, that needed to be worked through much more thoroughly.
I also didn’t feel it was believable that Anne would just jump back in the sack with Zac on their very first date after what had happened between them. Yes, Zac had done her a lot of favours over the course of the month leading up to their date, but Anne hadn’t known about most of them before that day and all of this initial “getting to know” month happens off screen, so again it seemed like her emotional transition happened too fast. Additionally, Anne is made out to be this extremely shy character who had only had two sexual partners, both of whom were terrible to her, and of course the previous time that she smexed with Zac he’d been completely horrible and thrown her out of his room afterward — I just can’t see her trusting him not to do the same thing or be similarly horrible to her at this point. She doesn’t even know they’re together, and thinks it’s just a “one-night stand” at the end of it! Why would this character be OK with a one-night stand with the one person who, when they tried a one-night stand the last time, was completely awful to her? It just didn’t make sense — there needed to be more build up of their emotional trust to make their physical relationship believable. Smex prior to emotional trust works in a lot of romances, but here I found it didn’t make sense given the setup and the characters.
The writing was good and both characters were sympathetic, and Zac does turn into a great hero, but I just didn’t feel like there was enough relationship and healing done prior to them becoming physically involved.

Title: Suspense, sweet, and a great first book in a new series

Review: I love military book, or private security books, what can I say I’m a sucker for a hot guy with skills. This isn’t exactly a second chance romance, but close enough to work for me.
Zac used to be in the military and is now one of the owners of Linear Tactical, a company that teaches all kind of security skills and tactics and survival skills. He’s a good guy, good friend, hard worker. He has a sad past, his wife and young son both died in a car accident. By the time this book starts a lot of time has past and he’s managed to move on. The thing is that is something that haunts him. Anne. The woman who was best friends with his wife, who he slept with after she died.
When Anne shows up back in town as the new ER doc she’s more than a little broken. Her husband left her for a younger more personable woman. She’s back in the town where she was invisible. And oh year she knows at some point she’s going to have to see Zac, the man who really broke her. Zac never expected to find that Anne was afraid of him when they see each other again but she is. I felt so much for Anne. I wanted her to get a happy ending, to feel loved and accepted. Frankly I just wanted to wrap her up in a giant band aide.
The thing I loved about this book is how Zac is a good guy, and he seriously wants to fix whatever happened with him and Anne. I love that he’s not afraid of it, that he doesn’t want to leave it unaddressed. Throughout the whole book he’s patient and kind and sweet. He never tries to force her into anything, he’s never overly pushy, he just wants to be around her in whatever way she is okay with. He really is a great hero in this book.
I will say there is some serious triggers for people is violence against women is hard for you to read. I didn’t feel like it was over down or gratuitous, don’t get me wrong it was hard to read, but it was necessary for the story and I felt like it was well done.
This book had everything I wanted: a great love story, good secondary characters, solid storyline, just a great beginning to a series. I look forward to the next one.
