How to be Creative in a Cubicle
It’s not easy being creative in a corporate job that requires you to sit in a cube for 9 hours a day….but here are some tips on how you can get and keep those creative ideas flowing.
Customize your Cube
Although you have to work in a 6x6 foot box all day, you shouldn’t be staring at a the same grey walls for 40 hours a week. Use small plants (or big ones), use photo’s, use posters, use lights, anything to make your cube seem less like a jail cell and more like a personal space. The plants and lights will also make being inside for most of the day easier. A bulletin board can also be useful for posting inspiration and ideas that pop into your head.

Do Work Standing Up
Although it’s probably a lot easier to do your work sitting down, standing up get’s your blood and creative juices flowing and can be useful when you feel tired, especially after lunch. Installing a whiteboard on the wall can also get you out of your seat and provides a good space to jot down random ideas.

Walk Around
When you find yourself in a creative block, there’s no better way to think or come up with new ideas than to get up and walk around. The change of scenery will help you think and compose new thoughts. If the weather is nice walk around outside, even if it’s not, a few laps around the building can get you thinking. Stepping away and going on a walk provides different sights, sounds, and feelings that re-energize the brain.

Organize Your Workspace
Not everyone likes a clean workspace, and some people even prefer a messy space. “Organized” can be a relative term depending on who you ask. You should organize your space in a way that things you regularly need are accessible which allows you to be the most creative and productive you can be.

Make use of your Lunch Break
If you’re working at a job that doesn’t allow you to be creative, you have to make time in order to reach your goals. Lunch can be a good break in your day to brainstorm new ideas or set new goals.
