At present, almost everyone has own social media account, most of Chinese people prefer to use Wechat but a large of number of people like to use Facebook. They use it several times per day to share their ideas and stories thus learning language through social media is becoming a new method. Otherwise, CALL as the main educational trend is not only used in class but also utilized after class and outside of school. Many educators hold the view that we can use these social media to aid pupils’ learning unconsciously.
For example, Wechat has a function which is called “Circle of Friends”, everyone can see your friends’ posts if this post is public. I often post some useful links and websites which relative to how to learn English easier and how to speak English fluently in my circle of friend. I can @ my friends if the post content is important for some people. It is an interesting learning way for some pupils because they always browse their circle of friends when they are waiting for a bus or a meal.
In addition, Youdao, QQ and Wechat are famous social media in China. QQ is the biggest social media which has 1 billion users and Wechat is becoming a more and more popular social media in recent years which already has over 600 million users. Youdao is the most famous automatic translation software and it has 200 million users over the world. Most of my students use these 3 social media to collect information every day. I have previously used Youdao and QQ in my practice and obtained a good result. Furthermore, users also can share their outcomes of using social media on the website. Therefore, personally I hold the positive attitude and support using social media for language learning.
