Actualize Your Intentions with Sigil Magic

Dating back to the Renaissance, sigil is derived from the Latin word, sigillum (meaning seal), and may also be related to the Hebrew word, segula, (meaning talisman — in word, action or form).

These symbols are portals for bringing intention into the material, and are widely used to catalyze intention setting practices.

My favorite time to create a sigil is during the Waxing Crescent + First Quarter Moons. It’s also important to discharge your sigil around the Full Moon— we’ll get to that later.

You’ll need:

  • Blank paper
  • Writing utensils (pencil + marker)
  • Time distraction-free from electronics, others, etc.

Directions:

  1. Sanctify your space. Surround yourself with things you love, brew tea and purify the air with sage or palo santo.
  2. Draw a circle on a blank sheet of paper (5–6 inches in diameter).
  3. Write your intention. Reduce your goal or wish to one affirmative statement beginning “I am…” or “I have created for myself…” NOTE: Including any negatives will attract more negatives.
  4. Cross out all vowels and repeating constants.
  5. Inscribe the remaining letters, one by one, into the circle you drew in step 2. It can be angular or curly, bold or delicate.
  6. Trace in permanent ink or marker.
  7. Take a picture of your sigil + share it with me @yoalicat (Instagram/Facebook) and #thisaquarianlife #moonmagic
  8. Keep your sigil in a spot you visit daily. Meditate on or trace it. Discharge under the light of the full moon.
