Of course this can be used for more than just programming videos, but this is the context I have seen it used in.

This was inspired by devaslife’s style. Be sure to checkout his YouTube channel.

Prerequisites

You will need to have Windows 10 and OBS installed, but the same logic can be applied to other platforms as well.

Setting up Windows 10

1. Download a green image for your background.

2. Set you desktop background to be the green image.

3. Make your taskbar automatically hide.
Hover over your taskbar and left click. Go to “Taskbar Settings” and enable “Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode”.

4. Hide your icons. This can be accessed by left clicking on your desktop → View → Show desktop icons.
Don’t worry, you can enable this again after you are done.

Setting up OBS

Background footage

  1. Add a browser source. Alternatively you can use “Image”, “Image Slide Show”, “Media Source”, …
  2. Set the URL to the video/picture you want.
  3. If you right click on the source of the browser there is an “Interact” setting. There you can interact with the browser and play/maximize your video.

Display capture

  1. Add a “Display Capture”
  2. Right click on the newly added source
  3. Click on Filters
  4. Click on + and add a “Chroma Key” filter

Result

You can open as many windows as you want. You can resize and move them around as much as you want.
