Going dry for July

I woke up with the worst hangover on July 1st and did the usual prostrating of swearing to the many-faced gods that I’d quit drinking forever, or at least for a while. When the nausea passed I decided it was a good time to stay true to my word (for once) and go dry for July. I then realised that rhymed and actually thought I made it up… how clever was I? A quick google confirmed that yes, I was clever, but so were about 1,000,000 people before me. Oh well, at least I’ll have company this month!

Cutting out the six packs to get a six pack
I’ve been going to the gym and working out a few times a week for almost 2 years now, and I’ve never been able to shift that stubborn, maybe 1/2 inch of retained fat around my waistline… you know, the muffin top. So this month is not just about helping my poor poor liver out, but to see if cutting out alcohol reduces that mid-life drift, that chubba bubba, those love handles (I’m just reading synonyms off of urban dictionary now).

Day eight and feeling great
I’m already on day eight and I’m seeing a dramatic change already. It’s kind of shocking really. Not only am I waking up early and not hitting the snooze, but my mood has improved, I’ve saved £50 (that’s how much I was spending on booze each week — shocking right?) AND my lower abs are coming out to play. It was the booze!

Can’t wait to see what I look and feel like on July 31st.

PS. If you want a good app to track your booze intake, I use Leaf – Your Discreet Drink Tracker as pictured above.
