Sustainable coffee- can it work? By Yogev Kimor
Sustainable coffee- can it work?

I recently was asked about sustainability in the coffee industry alongside climate change.
Does sustainability even possible in an industry like coffee?
Think about it for a sec — huge vassals carrying coffee bags containers worldwide while blowing emissions across the ocean.
Also, other than The Bellwether Roasting System, no other coffee roasters company offers emission-free roasters.
Add this to the typical plastic/aluminum bags commercial coffee comes in, and the disposable “Take-away” plastic/paper cups - you get a non-sustainable product.

With that being said, there are a few solutions to most of it:
Recyclable packs
High-end emission-reducing systems (that does consume a lot of electricity but still produces excellent results)
Farm-to-cup trend — To become more “aware,” most brands started to work directly with coffee cooperatives, cutting middlemen, which helps narrow the payout gap.
The bottom line is that the coffee industry is far from sustainable, but it is sure in the right direction towards it.
Focusing on local suppliers, coffee roasters, and sustainable packages will increase the efforts, but this is up to us, consumers, to think more sustainable and push the brands towards it.

Thank you for reading
