I think the benefit of a daily habit of any sort isn’t that the habit is necesarily the best thing in the world to do every day, but that is creates other collateral benefits down the road.
e.g. Writing 500 wpd might not create the best content, but it will teach you how to focus more intensely, stick to routine, type efficiently and get over writers block. This would then help you write a longer and more thoughtful piece more effectively.
Overall, I believe, as Cal Newport says, that the most valuable thing we can produce in the knowledge economy is deep work. Depth will win over breadth long term. How to get the “depth”?….that might require some shallow work done consistently as far as I am concerned.
