Starting & Stopping
You know in the claymation version of Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, there’s the Island of Misfits? Well, if we were in a claymation movie, I’d come from the Island of Procrastinators. Rather, I’d come from the Island Of Those Who Start Creative Projects But Never Really Finish Them.
I’m sure I’m not alone, but still, it’s an island nonetheless.
I may or may not be Queen of this Island. Queen of Great Ideas, Queen of Grand Beginnings, Queen of Saved Tumblr Blog URLs That Have No Posts In Them.
I’m the girl who goes out and tells people about her great ideas — purely to get the reaction — but then never actually follows through with those ideas.
For example:
I like to go to a lot of concerts. I am also 5'2". This results in me not being able to see the stage much less directly in front of me more often than not. To help find the humor in this, I will frequently tell my companion (or even that random person standing near me offering sympathetic glances) about my idea to start a blog called “Life Of A Short Person” that would consist only of pictures that I take of the back of people’s heads while at a show.
This inevitably gets me a chuckle and a response like, “OMG that’s hilarious! You totally should!” We both get excited, and I drunkenly will pull out my phone to snap a pic.
A pic that I completely forget about afterwards, until 6 months later when I run out of memory on my phone and go through to delete things and think to myself, “Geeze, I must have been really drunk at this show, this picture is terrible. You can’t even see the band!”
You get the point.
So, how do we break such habits? Unfortunately for me, there is no real rehab for this kind of thing. Thus, I must simply quit cold turkey, and force myself to not give up on my ideas.
Continuing to contribute to this fantastic Medium (love the name, btw) is one of those ideas.
Here goes nothing.
