our parents taught us how to lie

lies

obvious omission and deception ruled my childhood as i am sure it did yours, my dear. that generation is characterized by expert liars — there, i said it!

when there is no trust and loyalty, nations will divide and crumble

our parents taught us how to lie.
it’s not like your mum didn’t want you to have fun in your cousin’s house 30 minutes away. what she really should have said was:
“i’m sorry my child, petrol is too expensive, and if we drove an hour to and fro, it would ruin our budget for the month. you know daddy doesn't get paid until two weeks.”

our parents taught us how to lie.
our parents did not teach us intimacy. if you grew up like me, you never really felt heard. your parents and their friends’ friends kept chanting incantations like “spare the rod, spoil the child…the first commandment with a promise.” you feared expressing your base desires. after all you are just a child, not a leader of tomorrow.

our parents taught us how to lie.
this is exactly why you are so good at lying! and, in your defense, it is not your fault my dear. everybody has been lying to you since the day you decided to fertilize your mother’s eggs. you have been lying to yourself. the government has been lying to you. your pastors have been lying to you. everyone is deciding to hide under the umbrella of pretense.

our parents taught us how to lie…
