So true, Jon Westenberg! This makes me think of Bo Burlingham’s terrific 2007 book Small Giants: Companies that choose to be great instead of big. Who cares about building a huge scalable business if it means you won’t be staying true to yourself. Better to build a company that, as you said, will make you feel proud and will be an enjoyable process (provided it makes money!).
