Take Smaller Bytes

if it’s bigger than your head. Don’t eat it

And I’m not just talking about food.

I’m talking about information overload.

I’m sure you have your little New Year’s Resolution list attached to your fridge or stored in your smartphone somewhere. Maybe you want to lose weight, or join a gym and get in better shape. Perhaps it’s to make more money or find the love of your life. All these changes are wonderful to embrace. But what about unplugging more, and sitting still for a few minutes a day?

What about taking smaller “bytes” and perhaps walking in nature more?

Life is happening at warp speed and doesn’t show signs of slowing down any time soon. Technology has arrived on a super personal, private moment level and it ain’t going anywhere.

This is it kids! The run away distraction train has departed, and it’s going to be your job to steer it.

The incredible thing is though, that no matter how fast and smart technology has become, our human mind is faster and smarter.

Our brain adapts to the environment in resides in. It’s been happening since the beginning of time. We are human. We adjust. However, historically, we adjust over longer periods of time.

Over the course of history, we had more time to adapt. We had decades, and centuries to reach a new homeostasis. The changes we are enduring now take place in a matter of months, weeks and even days.

although the mind can adapt and learn new things at an incredible rate, the body — the thing attached to your noggin — needs more, or shall I say, less.

It needs to get up and out and go for walks in nature.

Why nature? To unplug and slow down.

When the body does this, an amazing thing happens to the brain. It slows down too.

Don’t misunderstand. Slowing down doesn’t mean it suddenly becomes stupid. It means that it has a chance to relax and recalibrate to the slower rhythm that nature intended. When the mind becomes relaxed, the body does too, and what you are left with is feeling energized and motivated.

So you could go back to your bits and bytes and kick some warped speed techno butt!

So, consider adding this to your list of resolutions. A walk with nature, and a few moments of silence.

It’ll do your body good, and your mind will love you for it.

Hope you liked this body-mind piece. If you did, would you please hit recommend? It would feel like a walk in nature for me. ☺
