PlanSnap is now Yoller
When we set out to build the fastest way to get friends together, we wanted a name that was literal, trustworthy, easy to understand and easy to say. We picked PlanSnap.
PlanSnap served us well!
Earlier this year we were named as App of the Day in 140 countries by Apple, and one of the best apps for quality time with friends by Google. We’ve loved helping people all around the world quickly make all kinds of plans with their real friends in real life.
So why are we changing our name?
As we really got into the details of why it was so hard to get friends together in order to build a dramatically better way, we also understood more deeply why it matters — now more than ever.
We are in the midst of an epidemic of loneliness. Young people are reporting higher levels of loneliness than older people and 86% of lonely people surveyed pointed the finger at tech as the cause.
The World Health Organisation’s study showed that loneliness is as bad for you as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. In the UK it’s considered a public health problem so bad that the government appointed a minister responsible for fixing it.
On the other hand, strong, real world relationships have been repeatedly proven to make us healthier, happier and live longer. This led us to define our mission more clearly:
We’re on a mission to make the world healthier and happier by strengthening real world relationships, everywhere.
Yes, that is a BIG job. We realised that we needed a brand with the global ambition to match.
PlanSnap is now Yoller
Time after time in research, people from all different walks of life told us how much they liked saying the word, and that it feels fun and fast (even in languages we don’t speak). People associate it with:
- Yo!
- Holler
- YOLO (You Only Live Once for the oldies in the back…)
- Yala yala (used to mean hurry up in Arabic)
What sealed it for us though was its meaning in Scottish (especially as founder Louise is half Scottish):
Now, if that isn’t the most perfect description for what happens when you make plans with friends, we don’t know what is!
