Google Chromecast Could Be Great

One Undisclosed Perk, and an Early Adopter’s Hope

I just bought Google’s Chromecast, a Wifi-enabled accessory/dongle that plugs into your TV’s HDMI port and will allow you to stream content straight from the internet.

The two pieces I want to further examine are the “TV’s HDMI port” and “stream content”.

I actually don’t have a TV, at least, not one that with an HDMI port. I do, however, have a projector that takes HDMI. And it works with Chromecast. Suddenly, I have an instantly portable screen that I can put anywhere in my apartment to create a viewing space. In fact, anywhere with Wifi, I can now set up my projector, and just launch the Chromecast app from my phone and have a watch party. All I need now are wireless speakers, and my whole set up is wire-free (other than power).

Despite my elation at the possibilities on that front, I will say that I’m a little concerned of the lack of mobile Chrome ‘casting. I would love to see Chromecast be able to not only stream ALL media from any device, but also allow for screen mirroring. That would be amazing.
