I’m a ‘responder’ on Medium, not yet a published writer. I’m older, so not a fan of social media in general. My comfort zone has always been with edited publications and staff writers, refereed journals, real books and paper news’papers’. I like to know something about the people I read, even if it is just a 10 word profile.

I have learned to block several categories of writers, most emphatically those who like to brag or advice-give others about how much $ they make by writing a large quantity or sharing some (what I would call) ‘marketing gimmick’ trick.

I like Medium because a reader can find smart, informed good writing and writers. That is a gift to the reading world. I hope that whatever system of renumeration is created doesn’t encourage ill informed, ego based, blabber mouths. However, in all areas of the public realm, sometimes we have to pay or by default support things with which we disagree, like war and farmers’ subsidies. No matter what system is created, some assholes will find a way to get the benefits of that system or structure.

I am a very political consumers: I’ve never walked into a Walmart, I’m an Amazon refuser and an Apple denier. My criteria is simple: you either have integrity or you don’t, although in a country with a capitalistic economic system, one can’t avoid some pretty gray areas. I am hopeful and confident that Medium will continue to attract careful thinking, good writers and compensate them fairly.
