I think it would have been better if we as advisors sat up some ground rules and enforced them right at the beginning. But there is this balance you as an advisor need to hold. On the one side, you want to have some control of the project if it doesn’t work as expected, however, on the other side, you need to also let the students manage it on their own as this is also part of the student-owned project. Nevertheless, this was the first experience for us to manage a team and we all learned a lot from it. Another thing that might take some pressure of the team to finish all at the end is to have some milestones and deliverables in between, which are tied to further funding through the university. This year a lot of university funding was in place right from the start.
