Song of the Day: “Hungry Heart”- Bruce Springsteen (Of course its going to be a Springsteen Song)

(Precursor: This is going to be the most boring blog hopefully. This is just about me and the reason for writing.) My name is Thomas John Schrette and I am from the Bay Area of California. I am currently a junior at Babson College. This is where my journey begins. (Btw Bruce Springsteen is my favorite musical artist and will often be talked about or related in the posts including the song of the day which will be talked about more below).

A combination of luck and finesse (Mostly just luck) lead me to be accepted to a program called BRIC: Babson, Russia, India, China. Fairly self explanatory but over the fall semester I will be traveling to Russia, India, and China, spending about a month in each. From there I am traveling through various countries in South East Asia, until Christmas time. This is my blog. A dialogue and collection of my experiences and emotions that are to come.

What my plan is for this open ended “journal” is to communicate what happens along my journeys, but then again it could drastically change or devolve into who knows what. I am optimistic that will not happen, but only time will tell. I have been backpacking in Europe, hiked the Inca Trail, and visited Tokyo for a 10 day course. What I have discovered along my time while abroad is how incredibly life-altering discoveries can be. At first, I was scared, anxious, fearful. Newness and change have often been things that don’t necessarily excite me. But these times have changed and I now relish any opportunity to experience something new, raw, different; basically anything that makes me feel uncomfortable. Because the single most important thing that I have learned throughout my life, the only guarantee I have found, is that change will always come, so why fear it. I have forced myself to become comfortable with the uncomfortable, because I want to experience any and everything this world has to offer. The heart is going to want what it wants, and mine is hungry for experiencing the world (Hungry Heart… Get it??) So that’s the premise of this whole thing and why I wanted to go on this program. I get to experience 3 countries for the price of 1. That’s what I call a deal. I am a business student aren’t I? That’s it for today and more to come. Hope you enjoy, feedback is always welcome.

Also, I want to try and incorporate a quote and a song into what I write for the day, or what I am feeling at the time (I highly encourage you to listen to the song both before and after reading, or wile reading… Whatever you feel); So bare with me as it try to blend those in. Song at the top of the page below the title, and quote at the bottom below a sign off (some quotes will have names of who said them, but some will be unknown, but I will not indicate if they are unknown. Don’t know why I need to say this but I can, because its my blog, and i can do whatever the fuck I want to). I’m also going to do a sign off like at the end of the email because I feel like it. Who know why. Anyways that is all. Hopefully this gets a little more interesting as it goes on.

Peace,

Thomas John Schrette the First
