Clap
I once went to a choir performance at the university where I received my BA. After the performance, an acquaintance who had performed told me I was a very halfhearted clapper. Although it’s true, isn’t it a bit strange that this person was upset I didn’t clap as much as other people around me? There were roughly 200 people there. So it’s like, this person desired a certain level of clapping to feel accomplished and I ruined that because I, 1 of 200, didn’t clap enough.
Whenever I performed/spoke/etc on stage I always tried to avoid actually looking at the species called people. There’s just something funny about someone worrying about how excitedly I clapped my hands.
But it’s also interesting as, as an audience, you expect to see rather than be seen.
I gave up my long-held dream of being a seal that day.
