Workflow tip #4: Surf like Slater

Accessing your browser’s address bar can be an adventure. It’s way too easy to misclick. And how do you highlight all the text at once? Is it one click? Three clicks? All the clicks?

Staying productive and positive on the Internet is hard enough without the address bar tripping you and laughing like a schoolyard bully.

There’s a better way, people. Five minutes ago, you didn’t know about it. Five minutes from now, your life will be changed forever.

The command

When in a browser: CMD + L

What it does

Quickly selects all text in your navigation bar. No mouse hovering and clicking necessary.

How do I use it?

When you are in your browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Stop Using Internet Explorer), use CMD + L and instantly type your .com of choice, copy the link or perform your Google search.

This can save you up to three clicks and countless misclicks every time. And it’s especially useful for laptop users who are stuck with a trackpad.

Haters to the left

Does this tip seem too small to be practical? You’re too small to be practical. Try it for one week and see if it doesn’t save you time.

Recap

CMD + L. Quickly select all text in your Internet browser’s navigation bar.
