Hunger is a bitch

Why I feed my boss…

Eliminating workplace hunger, one meal at a time.

Working for a startup, there are lots of problems to solve and tasks to be executed. One of those tasks that can get overlooked is eating. When we are in high demand, our priorities quickly shift from having breakfast to jumping on a call. We also skip lunch to finish a report, or forgo dinner for a Meetup or networking event. Needless to say, we are hungry.

My boss, the innovator, the workaholic, the manager, is a typical man. He doesn’t plan meals, and I am not even sure he knows how to cook. But like everyone else, the guy needs to eat. People can get cranky, aloof and make mistakes when they don’t take care of themselves. I know I do.

So, I made a promise, well, an ongoing plan to feed my boss. I call it: “No Boss Left Behind.” It’s simple; when I eat, he will eat, whether he likes it or not. For example, last week we were swamped with early morning meetings. Knowing he wouldn’t make the time to whip up some eggs or even grab a bite on the way to work, I brought in some avocado salad, fruit salad and tea. Yeah, it’s a girly breakfast, but it works.

I also took it upon myself to procure an entire box of protein bars, because he had told me he forgot to eat lunch. And this morning, before our wild day of client calls and deadlines, he will walk in with a Starbucks breakfast sandwich on his desk. Not only does this plan build rapport, it ensures that we are both taken care of.

Some say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I would beg to differ. When you work a 10-hour day, every meal is important. Hence, under my watch, this guy will never go hungry again.

For all of you Bay area folks out there who are hungry for dinner, there is most definitely an app for that. Check it: www.eatsprig.com
