How To Make Coconut Oil At Home

Coconut oil is one of the best oils ever, it’s rich with vitamins, fatty acids and antioxidants, it has a lot of health benefits on the skin, nails, hair and can be used to treat common beauty problems that we face in our everyday life like dry cracked skin, weak damaged hair and splitting nails, it’s also perfect for cooking because it’s light and easy to digest, so if you want to learn how to make coconut oil at home just follow these steps.

To start take some grated coconut, i used 200g to make a small bottle of coconut oil, if you want more oil you should use more coconut.

Bring a big bowl and carefully pour the grated coconut in it.

Pour warm water over the coconut until it’s all covered, it’s important to use warm water so it’s easier to extract milk from the coconut.

For this step it’s better to roll up your sleeves because it’s gonna get messy, start squeezing the coconut with your hands to extract milk for about 10 minutes, keep squeezing until you see the water turns from clear to a white color.

After extracting the milk from the coconut cover the bowl and leave the mixture to sit for 2 hours.

Remove the cover from the bowl, bring another big bowl and put it right next to the first bowl.

Take a clean cheesecloth and put it over the second bowl.

Bring a ladle, use it to scoop the mixture from the bowl and pour it on the cheesecloth then pick it by it’s ends, twist it and squeeze it as hard as you can to strain the coconut milk from the mixture, keep going until you finish it all. This process is a bit tiring so take a rest when you need to.

After extracting the milk from the coconut empty the coconut in a smaller bowl and throw it away after you’re done because it become flavorless so there is no use of it, once i tried to make cookies with it and it tasted really weird.

After you got all the coconut milk cover the bowl, place it in a dark place and leave it to sit for 24 hours. It’s a long time but it’s really necessary to leave it that long so the oil forms.

After 24 hours bring the bowl remove the cover you’ll notice small pieces of solid oil floating on top.

Pick the solid oil with a slotted spoon carefully and put it on a pan.

After picking all the solid oil pieces pour the coconut water away, you will notice that it smells bad and there’s nothing to do with it. Now take the coconut oil pieces to cook them.

Place the pan on the stove and put it on low heat to cook the solid coconut oil pieces with stirring frequently until it turns to liquid oil.

When the coconut pieces turns brown you know it’s done, remove the pan and let the oil cool down.

Bring a glass bottle or a plastic container, a strainer and a small funnel.

Put the funnel on the bottle, the strainer on top of it and start straining the oil.

That’s it, now you have your own homemade coconut oil.

Use the coconut oil on your nails by applying it on the nail bed using a cotton swab then massage it into the cuticles, this will make your nails grow faster and stronger.

It’s great for the skin especially for chapped lips and dry hands during cold weather, you can also use it to fade old scars, just don’t use it on your face because it will stay inside the pores causing blackheads and pimples.

Apply it on your hair to moisturize it and make it softer, nourish the scalp and keep it healthy, promotes hair growth and reduces breakage.

Apply a small amount on your eyebrows using a cotton swab to make them grow thicker and become fuller.

Coconut oil will naturally become solid, the colder the weather the faster it will solidify, so before using it heat it up a little bit to melt it.
