I’m not American and I cannot claim to fully understand the social structure. But an atrocity is an atrocity. You should offer condolences to the people affected by an atrocity, it’s part of what makes us a social species. The fact that you’ve not experienced any of that from your colleagues, regardless of their race, is mind boggling and you’re right to address the issue.
