Why don’t Zoomers like Spotify? What’s our deal?

Spotify rose to prominence as a music streaming service for everyone. Unlike iTunes, it wasn’t limited to Apple products. Unlike Pandora, it allowed you to pick your music as well as gives suggestions. Spotify does really well with Gen X and Millennials, but they struggle with Gen Z and Alpha, why? Let’s take a look at three reasons Gen Z doesn’t vibe with Spotify: their attention span, Spotify’s product model, and the rise of TikTok.

Gen Z’s Attention Span

2.5 quintillion bytes of data are produced every day. More information is produced every day now than all the information available on the internet in 2003. Gen Z has grown up in this era. We’ve grown up being bombarded by information day to day. Everything is available at a moment’s notice, and there’s so many things that vie for our attention.

Imagine growing up like that. Imagine the effect of having tons and tons of different sources compete for your attention your entire life. We already know that the ages of 13 to 19 are the most important ages for learning. Most kids these days are getting access to social media even before this. The effect of this?
