I deeply, strongly agree with your piece. Unfortunately we have already seen the pay for content model fail so many times. An example is newspaper journalism. I see numbers that almost half of local journalists in the US have lost their jobs in the last five years. It is just so depressing that it is easier to spend $5 on a coffee than on a subscription to quality writing that will make you smarter.
One oddity is that it appears the less readers you have the easier it is to charge: FT and WSJ have no problem at all compared to all the other newspapers. In other words it’s probably easier for Google+ to charge a subscription than it is for Facebook!
