Keep Visualizing — the greenest JR train ride in Tokyo

This is the fifth article of my continuous data visualization series.

The focus of this series is on initial findings. If anyone is interested to see deeper findings, please let me know. I might write further posts on them.

The map above shows all the districts, parks (green patches) and JR train tracks (colorful lines) in Tokyo. Greenness is measured by the total area of parks within 200 meters to the train track. According to this measurement, the greenest JR train ride is along Keihin-Tōhoku Line. It passes several major parks in Tokyo such as, Ueno Park, the Imperial Palace and Hibiya Park.

The plot below shows the proportion of total park area to district area. The top three districts with the largest proportions of parks are Koganei, Chiyoda and Akishima. The greenest train ride, Keihin-Tōhoku Line, which is shown in grey, passes through Chiyoda and is close to the greener part of Tokyo.
