The BANDAI promotional card released with Yu-Gi-Oh! (Toei) Episode 1

In 1998, Bandai obtained a license to create Yu-Gi-Oh! merchandise from Toei Animation (the company that created the original Yu-Gi-Oh! anime). On April 4th, 1998, to coincide with the release of Episode 1 of the Toei Animation anime, Bandai released the 1st Generation of their card game, which included 42 cards. On the same day, they also released 3 limited print promotional cards, which were Mirror Force, Swords of Revealing Light and Gate Guardian. This article will be talking about the Gate Guardian card.

7000 copies of the BANDAI Gate Guardian promotional card were given out on April 4th, but that was in 1998 and based on the current value of the card, it is likely that there are less than 250 currently in circulation. Unlike other rare Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, it is actually easier to find this card outside of Japan. A quick search on eBay will currently return two or three results, whereas a search on Japan’s Yahoo! Auctions won’t return anything.

As of August 2017, a mint BANDAI Gate Guardian goes for around $500 US.
