The song I would like to talk about is by Dirty Heads ‘Vacation’. “Vacation” is the fourth song on Dirty Heads album ‘Swim Team.’ It is a song that inspires people to live their lives like they are on vacation. Moreover, the song is meant to motivate people to stop waiting for the weekend or for a vacation in order to seize the day. The main idea is to go after the passion and stop suffering. Everyone has possibility to quit the job that pisses them off.

In the song there are some figures of speech that make the author’s message more clear. For example, there is a simile in the line ‘Everybody sour like a lemon tree’. It is used in order to say that when you don’t love what you do but you have to do it five days a week it gets annoying. It can make people bitter and typically leads to them taking it out on everyone around them.

The epithet ‘greasy hands’ in the line ‘Build this engine from the ground up, now my hands they ain’t so greasy, feel me?’ It means that people built their life and the attitude to the job from they ground up. They did the “dirty work” to get where they are now. But from the moment of life when they succeed in their job they no longer have to do manual labor. Thus the natural way of all of people and there is no reason to get upset of it.

There is also a case of allusion in the line ‘Van Gogh my earlobe’. It refers to the case with Van Gogh when he cut his own ear off during an argument with a fellow artist. It can speak to Dirty Head’s own quarrel with some artists.

The repetition of the word ‘every’ at the beginning of the lines ‘every single day’ is here to emphasize the idea of being happy each day, no matter what the day actually is.

In conclusion I would like to say that this song is a real motivation to realize that the world is an oyster and only you decide whether you are happy in it or not.
