Diosa Femme and Mala Munoz started off as just mutual on social media. After a few years, they finally got together at a local event and this is where the beginning of Locatora Radio begins.
There personality and drive for community and culture balanced each other so well, and continues to thrive, that they are able to succeed in their platform as podcast hosts.
On Remezcla, with Yara Simon, the duo talks about their growth, branding, and the lessons they’ve learned with the creation Locatora Radio. They’re unapologetically themselves, with no reason to hide or act a certain way. Their community is full of like-minded people, women of color and indie.
Mala Munoz and Diosa Femme describe the different aspects that play part in their chapters and social platforms. They talk about their own culture and how growing up, the older women in their family had such an influence that they’ve used it to create their artwork and their stories.
Much of their work is based off their own experiences and issues that arise in the Latina community as well as other women of color communities.
Mala has been a rape crisis counselor in the past and has seen first hand how society put women down when sexual assaults occur in their spaces. Locatora Radio takes back those accusations of being crazy and gives women a platform to speak on these issues.
In the article with Samanta Helou, the two women are known to “give a platform to the survivors of color who might feel left out or isolated. This is crucial when taking into account the way Latino culture often shames women who experience sexual violence.”
In our own community we have the resignation of Katie Hill due to the fact that her ex-husband leaked private photos. Issues like these happen everywhere and in communities of marginalized people, we face even more backlash.
