Mental health advice: 2018 edition
Maintaining a stable mentality is pretty difficult. But there are times you fall into the deepest pit and couldn’t get out. 2017 has been that deepest pitfall of my life. Today, on the first day of 2018, I have been reflecting on what I’ve been through. Even though, i still haven’t entirely gotten up from “ the fall”, i really want to share some of my realizations or advice for the world.
What others call a “bitch attitude”, I call “the sudden realization I don’t deserve to be treated like a garbage”.
People would say or do the harshest things and expect you to act normal. And when you finally snap they’d say “you really have a bad temper”, “don’t get mad at this tiny thing”. So, if someone treats you like a garbage, cut them from your life. You don’t need that negativity in your life. You deserve to be treated right.
You are what you think
The first thought that goes through your mind is what you have been conditioned to think. What you think next defines who you are. For example, if you saw a girl walking by and thought “She looks horrible in that dress”, then you think to yourself “I shouldn’t criticize what others decides to wear. She’s beautiful in her own way and she’s brave for wearing what she likes”.
Sing your favorite song off key, go for a slow run, draw stick figures, play video games on easy. You don’t need to be good at something to enjoy the act. Talent is overrated. Do things you like doing. It’s okay to be bad at things.
Eat, drink, sleep, walk and talk
If you’re not on a good mood, just basically eat, drink, sleep, walk and talk.
Healthy or not, eating a meal would help you. Trust me.
Drink water, coffee, tea, juice or whatever beverage you like.
If you’ve been cranky all day, it means you need a proper 8 hours of sleep or a simple nap would help.
Walk around the neighborhood, around the city or park. Breathe. See. Walk.
Talking to anyone about how you feel or about the weather would brighten your day. I know, I know. It sounds hard and awkward to some people, but when you just start talking, the rest will get easier. Talk about that new movie, the coffee, the weather, what that person had been doing today, whatever comes in your mind.
You are a work of art
