Mixing Contemporary Flavor with a Traditional Setting
“New Traditional” Style
George Washington did NOT sleep here, though he would’ve loved it! I am talking classic wing back chairs, a Victorian settee and antique pieces combined with a modern sofa and a glass coffee table. Take Grandma’s chair and paint the legs and/or frame with a pop of color in a high gloss lacquer, then re-upholster it in a funky contemporary fabric.
It’s all about taking a classic silhouette and updating it.
Philippe Starck is famous for this approach. He took a classic Louis-XV style chair and made it out of transparent polycarbonate. You can certainly incorporate these chairs into a “New Traditional” setting and this will give you the perfect balance with any traditional pieces you may have. Balance is the key, all while keeping it simple.
