Social media has always posed a challenge for me, due to my reluctance to be “social” with an agenda. I’m wedded to the organic connections that are funneled through face-to-face encounters that seal a level of trust that can’t be easily thwarted by the snappiness of clicks.

A simple example is America’s theory of human nature — people are predatory and cruel, hence greed and power and ruthlessness are good, weakness and frailty are bad, therefore only the strong should survive, because that’s what’s efficient, and thus society becomes a giant arena, a contest, a jungle. Doesn’t that sum up what most of American economics, politics, and psychology say?
