“I love you, but you’re not…serious people.” — Logan Roy, Succession

Brian Cox played the role of his life with Logan Roy in Succession. In Episode 2 of Season 4, Rehearsal, Logan delivers this line to his three delinquent children who, as ever, are playing toy soldiers with their vast wealth which they are only possess by virtue of being his children. Logan is an awful person, everything that people think Rupert Murdoch is but far, far worse. He is, though, a very serious person. He does not fuck around.

Years before I watched this episode of Succession and so obscure that it didn’t trigger any sort of memory in me until now, I had these thoughts. I said something similar, about a place that I worked at, in the Winter of 2021.

I sit down, far heavier than is necessary. I take special care to manspread slowly then lean back slightly in my seat. They both look at me silently, the faint hiss of static from the speakerphone the only noise in the room.
