Taj Mahal

Mughal Empire contribution to Islamic art and architecture in India

Although some consider it an Indian palace, it is actually an architectural memorial. It was built to house the remains of Emperor Shah Jahan’s third wife, Mumtaz Mahal, also known as the Exalted Palace, which means the beloved ornate palace. The word “Taj” in Persian refers to the palace crown or virtuous woman.

The Taj Mahal is a walled complex covering an area of 170,000 square meters. It consists of a mosque, a guest house, and other buildings in addition to the main mausoleum. Although the term mausoleum refers to a funerary monument for an important person, it was not the case in this instance, making it even more exceptional. Some historians agree that the Taj Mahal was built between 1631 and 1653. In this luxurious palace, 22 prominent domes can be observed, representing 22 years of work to complete this architectural masterpiece.

The Taj Mahal is located in the Indian city of Agra, known as the Taj Mahal City in India. One of the advantages of its location is that it allows for its reflection to be seen on the water at all times. By typing “Taj Mahal location” in a search engine, you can see many pictures of the Taj Mahal with its beautiful reflection on the water.
