Monday Morning Medium #3

An Amazing Amalgam of Astonishing Mediums Posts

Happy New Year!

And happy anniversary to me!

I’m writing this a few minutes to midnight, December 31st. As soon as the clock strikes 12, it will officially be 2018, and it will officially be my anniversary! So I’m going to make this quick! (Also, I was a freak and read ACTUAL BOOKS more than Medium articles, so I’ll only post a couple of articles this week.)

On to the good stuff!

Reading to Learn: Why You Shouldn’t Read Beginning-to-End and What to do Instead

Michael J. Motta

I am a Motta fan-boy, I have loved using his short-term/long-term journal technique, and this is a great article that I read the other day. (It was posted months earlier, but it is new to me!)

I’ve read so many books, but sometimes I’ve gotten so focused on a specific detail that I miss the entire point of the book. This article will help you figure out the main points before you even start reading! I can’t wait to put this in practice.

Lowering The Bar On What Is A Good Day Leads To A Much Happier Life

Lucas Schwalbe

If I wake up and am healthy that is a good day in my book.

Such a simple insight, but so profound! So often we think everything needs to be perfect, and we are consistently let down.

What if just being you were enough?

What if just smiling for 10 seconds were enough?

What if waking up alive were enough?

Maybe we should listen to Lucas and lower the bar on what a good day is!

In case you were wondering if I was going to mention here which books I’ve been reading… I will! Right now!

I finished Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich.”

I am so torn on this book. On the one hand, I understand that it’s a relic from the past, based on spotty, if any, research.

But some of it just makes sense, it resonates with me.

I don’t think I’ll be reading it again anytime soon, but it was a very interesting read, I underlined a lot (probably too much, according to Michael J. Motta.)

I also got half-way through “The Artisan Soul” by Erwin McManus.

This book is blowing my mind, especially when it talks about our identity and internal narrative. Everything is just clicking in my mind, and I plan on writing more about it after I finish the book and have some time to digest it more fully.

That’s it for this week’s Monday Morning Medium! I hope you had a great New Year’s Eve, and are ready to tackle the new year!

If you enjoyed an article, PLEASE let me know in the comments which one you liked, and why! And if you’ve read either of the books I mentioned, please give me your opinion and thoughts on them!

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
