So I have tried my hand at graffiti writing before. My brother spent a few years making stencils, and I would mess around with the paint when I was bored. I was never any good at controlling the flow of the paint, so let’s see how I do this time.

I started by sketching out my name with pencil; just simple letters that overlap.

The sketch was easy enough and I had thought of sketching the outline of my name on the piece of plywood that I would be painting, but thought it more authentic to just freehand the design. The progress pictures I will show are for my third attempt (first and second will be included at the end of the post) not only because I was most pleased with it, but also because I actually remembered to take progress photos with that one.

Step one: Outline of the letters. I went with gray for the main body of the letters, seeing as it’s my favorite color and that’s what I had laying around. Note how I almost forgot to take progress photos.

Step 2: Fill in the letters. Here I tried to clean up the lines a bit, but I didn’t stress too much as I knew I would be able to clean them up completely at the outlining step.

Step Three: Outline the letters. This allowed me to separate the letters to make my name more clear. I went with a forest green for the outline and also decided to add a dripping effect by holding the can closer as I sprayed and going over the outline a few times.

Compared to the two previous attempts, this is much better and I am quite happy with it. Not bad for an hour of practice. I do wish I had a can of white on hand so I could add glints on the letters to give a traditional bubble effect; Also wish that I didn’t make the Z look like a 2.

Get that boii some sunglasses

Rejects:

Attempt #1
Attempt #2 (bubble font not too bad on this one, but the particle board was giving me trouble with the opacity of the spray paint)
