Lead a Life Worthy of Your Calling

“Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.” -Ephesians 4:1

“Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth.” -Ephesians 4:11–14

I believe all of us have a call on our lives. A call to be a man of substance. A man of impact. The Lord will use you to change someone’s life. Whether it is your families, your fiends, or a stadium of 10,000, you will be used if you allow him to work through you.

Jesus has a specific call on your life. You have an opportunity to leave a legacy that screams Jesus Christ. When I die, I want people to say “He was a man for others. He loved Jesus completely.”

So when Paul tells us to walk in a manner worthy of our call, I see that as a “call up” instead of a “call out”. He knows what we are capable of when we allow the Lord to have every single piece of our lives. He knows a dead man is a dangerous man.

When he calls us up to grow up into mature manhood, I get to look at my life and humbly ask “Where am I immature? What areas do I need to grow up in?”

I want more. I want to be used and I want to make an impact. I want to leave a legacy for others to follow. Trailblazer. Forerunner. When I die, I want my kids to say “I want to be like dad” and I want my wife to say “I’d marry that man again 100 times over.” But the Lord is a gentlemen. He will never force himself on you. Pride sometimes blocks the Lord from doing what he wants to do in us. Humility says “have your way”.

So I want more today. My prayer is that you do too. More humility and truth and kindness and forgiveness and gentleness and patience and love. More of the “new man” and none of the “old man”. More of Him and less of us.

It’s not a “call out”, exposing all your flaws in guilt and shame, but a “call up” into your true identity as a son, a saint, and a conqueror.

Let us live like that today. Eyes on him all the way.
